Sea Optics originally began in Adelaide, South Australia in 1974 when the former owner, Graeme Roberts, a SCUBA diver since 1958, designed and manufactured the "Seapak" cast aluminum underwater flash housing, primarily for fellow dive club members and of course himself. The demand steadily grew and in the end around 600 were manufactured, some are still in use today!. Seeking to expand the business, Graeme decided to source the finest underwater camera housings and related accessories from around the world and Australia's original and only specialist underwater camera store was born.

After some concerns over employing staff, just like any small business, Graeme put on David Hill in October 1992 to look after sales primarily. Sea Optics continued to grow over the following years and a dedicated service technician, Gerry Betteridge was hired in 1997. Come 1998, David needed further assistance and in August 1999 Carey Harmer was offered a sales position with David moving onto become the General Manager and to oversee the entire operation.

Sea Optics's most important decision was when it moved into it's first dedicated facility at 15 Nelson Street, Stepney, back in late June 1999.

On July 1, 2004, (some 31 years after Graeme originally started Sea Optics), David and his wife Carolyn, purchased Sea Optics from Graeme and Lorraine and continue to lead the underwater imaging industry in Australia and in fact the entire region, selling premium quality products, both as a authorised stocking dealer, sole Australian importer for many products and factory authorized service centre for the quality brands that we import.

On May 27, 2005 Sea Optics moved down the road to Unit 2, 65-67 Nelson Street, Stepney.

On June 1, 2009 we again moved into our current facility and this one is our best yet. Just 300 metres from the famous Adelaide Parklands and therefore just 1 kilometre from Adelaide's CBD. We are very proud of this new facility that we now offer our customers witha quality 100 square metre/330 square feet showroom, dedicated quality servicing and storage areas. Our facilites are one of the finest high end underwater imaging shops in the world today.
